Criminals and gun control

In our newspaper this morning the headline sprang out telling us there had been an armed robbery in the parking lot of a gas station slash convenient store in our little town. It seems there were three men who approached a man sitting in a car in the parking lot. The three men stuck a gun in the guy's face and took his money. The story in the paper indicated they were on foot and made their way north from the robbery site after the deed was done.

I don't get it. This is Illinois and we have the toughest gun laws in the nation. In fact we are the only state that has such tough laws against carrying concealed weapons. The law says you can't. I really don't understand how this sort of thing could happen in our little town. Didn't those three men know it was against the law to be carrying a gun under wraps. They should never have had a weapon like that since there is a law against it. I am sure they didn't mean it; perhaps they just didn't know about the law. Surely they would have respected it if they had known.
