The Cincinnati zoo is
undergoing a round of criticism by the news media, celebrities through
tweeting, and the American public. The
four-year-old child who managed to get into the gorilla's living space was in
mortal danger by an animal who could have crushed the child's head in a
millisecond had he wanted to. The
gorilla did manage to drag the child through a moat-like stream of water,
banging his head around the cement surroundings. So, the response was the animal was killed by
zoo workers before it could kill the child.
The after effect of the
criticism has been replete with outrage for the gorilla being killed. Now, anyone who has children who have been
that age, are presently that age, or will be that age with the passage of time,
or any parent or grandparent who has had a child that age might have a
different mindset than the celebrities, and others, who are haranguing the
zoo. The castigation of the parents or
any officials even remotely connected to the decision to kill the gorilla
should stop. When it comes to making a
decision about the life of the gorilla or the life of the child, there should
be no question what the decision should be.
Even though there can be a lot of debate and blame to go around
regarding keeping animals in captivity, or killing any animal, or any political
correct response to zoo keepers or zoos in particular, one has to put
themselves in the shoes of the parents of that child watching the terrorizing
scenario being played out between a captive gorilla dragging their child
around, and the chaos unfolding with the crowds above that would upset the
gorilla even more. The zoo keepers who
were familiar with the animal knew best, and did the right thing.
So, for all those people who
are speaking in defense of the gorilla should re-examine their own positions on
the legal killing of human babies through abortion. If any of them currently believe in "a
woman's right to choose" to kill the child any of those women carry, should
take heart for themselves in knowing that on the day that gorilla was killed to
prevent the killing of a human child, there were 2,740 children across America
who were killed by abortionists to protect the mother's right to choose. That means in four years not a single one of
those 2,740 children who died on the same day as the gorilla will not be
visiting any zoo, and will not be in any danger, nor will any of them be around
to visit a zoo to put any animal in danger either. So those who are the most critical should
take comfort in that. For the rest of us
who support human life, we are saddened by the death of a gorilla, but are
extremely happy that little four-year-old boy was returned to the loving arms
of his parents.
